The design story

The artwork shows an hourglass with wheat ears in the upper bulb and noodles flowing into a steaming bowl below, framed by wheat stalks in a ring. Every line was drawn to read clearly as a silhouette, so the scene stays recognisable from across the room and casts a soft shadow onto the wall behind it, adding depth through the day as the light changes.

Material and finish

The piece is precision laser-cut from steel and finished in a matte black powder coat. The matte black tone gives a crisp contrast on white, cream, pastel, grey and wooden walls, and the powder coat resists fading and everyday scuffs far better than painted wood or printed canvas. It sits slightly off the wall for a light floating look.

Choosing a size

The Edible Hourglass comes in four square sizes: 18 x 18, 24 x 24, 32 x 32, 48 x 48 inch.

• 18 x 18 inch: a compact accent for a desk-side wall, a narrow pillar or a cosy corner
• 24 x 24 inch: fits above a side table, console or small counter
• 32 x 32 inch: a confident centrepiece above a sofa, bench or reception desk
• 48 x 48 inch: a true statement for large feature walls, lobbies and double-height spaces

As a rule of thumb, choose a width of about two-thirds of the furniture below it, and hang the centre of the artwork near eye level, around 57 to 60 inches from the floor.

Care

Dust it with a soft dry cloth. For marks, use a slightly damp cloth and dry it straight away. Avoid abrasive pads, polish and harsh chemicals so the powder coat keeps its even finish.
