1. Prepare the Fireplace for Use
- Inspect the Vent: Ensure the backside exhaust vent is free of obstructions for proper ventilation.
- Check the Ash Tray: Empty any ashes from previous use and clean the tray for optimal airflow.
- Inspect the Glass Door: Ensure the glass is clean and securely closed before starting a fire.
2. Choose a Safe Location (For Outdoor Use)
- Place the fireplace on a stable, non-combustible surface like concrete, stone, or tiles.
- Ensure the area is well-ventilated, with no flammable materials within a 10-foot radius.
3. Gather Fuel and Tools
- Use dry wood logs or high-quality coal as fuel for efficient burning.
- Have kindling, fire starters, or crumpled newspaper ready to ignite the fire.
- Use long matches or a fire lighter for safe ignition.
4. Build the Fire
- Place kindling or fire starters in the center of the ash tray or grate.
- Arrange wood logs or coal around the kindling in a teepee or crisscross pattern to allow proper airflow.
- Avoid overloading the fireplace with fuel to ensure proper combustion and prevent smoke buildup.
5. Ignite the Fire
- Light the kindling or fire starters using long matches or a fire lighter.
- Gradually add more wood or coal as the fire grows, keeping the flames controlled and steady.
- Keep the glass door slightly ajar during ignition to allow airflow and prevent smoke buildup.
6. Operate Safely
- Once the fire is stable, close the glass door to contain sparks and prevent smoke from entering the room.
- Use the flat top to warm small items, if desired, while ensuring they do not block the exhaust vent.
- Monitor the fire regularly and adjust the fuel or airflow as needed using a fire poker or tool.
7. Extinguish the Fire
- Allow the fire to burn down naturally, letting the remaining embers die out.
- Do not add water directly to the fire as it may damage the fireplace.
- Once completely cool, remove ashes from the tray and dispose of them safely.
8. Clean and Maintain
- Wipe the glass door with a heat-resistant glass cleaner to remove soot or residue.
- Clean the ash tray and grate after every use.
- Periodically check the exhaust vent for blockages and clean it as needed.
